Rugby highlight as a player:

Well . . Playing for a strong WP against a World XV at Newlands, in 1983, to celebrate the Centenary of WP Rugby; beating the Blue Bulls by the then highest score ever, at Loftus; benching in the 1983 Currie Cup Final against the Blue Bulls, when Calla Scholtz (my roomie) wore white Adidas boots for the first time ever; and doubtless, as linesman for the UCT u20B's beating a powerhouse Maties A side, which allowed us (the UCT A's) to clinch the under 20 League - what a team; Putting a much-vaunted Durban Collegians pack to the sword at Kings Park (let’s do it again); my International cap for Botswana in 1993! And many many happy games for the Jocks with great friends and lasting memories. Up the Reserve League!

Rugby highlight in your role:

Building capacity at the Bay, year on year, to take on the challenges we face and the Great people who've got on board; the 2010 home wins for FBRFC against Maties and Hamiltons were very special

Favourite Club Player:

Calvin Rich - period (for that woer..woer kick against Primrose in 2004, which saw us promoted back to the SLB and effectively allowed us to embark on our current trajectory)

Favourite Coach:

Johnathan vd Walt

Family background:

There were Franschhoek Huguenots from 1687, tabakboere from the Cango valley outside Oudtshoorn, a slavegirl, born in The Slave Lodge in 1666, Boer War orphans, Welsh poets, farmers and train drivers, a lekker ou gemors – not sure anyone ever picked up or played with a bat or ball. My mom loved her tennis though.

How do you chill?

Gardening – growing veges for the people (we run a cooperative project); mountain walking, taking my dogs out; lunch, or a beer, with mates; time with Jill

What are your aspirations for the Bay?

1. One Team, One Club; 2. 5 teams (at least!) in the Reserve League; 3. National Club champs. Mostly though, a Happy Club and meeting our core objectives of Excellence, Relevance and Sustainability in everything we do.

What is it about the Bay that inspires you?

The potential to be so much more - we have not even begun

Who at False Bay inspires you?

Louis de Waal

What do you do to relax or what are your interests outside of rugby?
