Spotlight - William Solomon

Name: William Solomon

Nickname:

Blommer – comes from spending too much time at 3rd centre ;)

Age: 30

Family background/recognition:

Not much to go on, my dad was more into cricket and soccer but his general passion for sport certainly rubbed off on me. My cousin represented the Bay for a season or two at U21 level but didn’t last very long.

Favourite position: 8th man

Least favourite:

Lock

In the FIFO’s it would have to be Brad van Deventer and Chris Baister, on a Saturday I have enjoyed watching Jody Reyneke swat would be defenders away and Danie Roux is always exciting to watch. Snoopy is always good for some entertainment

Wynberg Boys’ High School

Clubs played for:

Villagers – 2 years of U20A, False Bay – 8th season

Bit of hip hop, rap, something with a decent beat to it

Favourite movie:

The Replacements, Van Wilder

Favourite Food:

Home cooked chicken pie from mom goes down well but also enjoy a Southern Style chicken burger from The Bay.

Inspirational people:

Marc Douglass, Jean de Villiers

Rugby philosophy:

Make the most of every opportunity you get to play the game, make mates whilst doing it and the team is always more important than the individual

Life philosophy:

Everything happens for a reason; learn from your successes and failures

Rugby goals:

to win the Reserve League for a third consecutive time

What do you like about False Bay:

It is well known that False Bay is a very tight knit club that makes everyone feel welcome. The general vibe of the club on match days is awesome be it on a Friday night or Saturday afternoon. The strength of the club at the moment is also very inviting to any keen rugby player.

Why the Bay:

Having grown up down the road from False Bay and following their progress in the early and mid 2000’s I was always keen to contribute to the club and get involved. Haven’t looked back since joining.

What attracted you to the Bay and what keeps you here:

it was an easy decision with a number of school mates playing at the Bay. False Bay seems to have something special about it at the moment, long may that continue.

Best Bay rugby moment:

Personally beating the Wolfpack in the quarter final in 2011 as massive underdogs was amazing. Back to back Reserve League titles in 2014 and 2015 was just a dream back in 2009. The day False Bay got promoted in 2009 at home was something special to watch.

General Comments:

UTB, winning never gets boring!
